Knight - Weak assault

The knight in Shogi is much weaker than the knight in Chess.  It may only jump to two locations, the first is two squares forward and one to the left, the other is two squares forward and one to the right.  This is the only piece in Shogi that is allowed to jump over other pieces.

The knight and promoted knight.

The knight may not be dropped into the final two rows as this would leave it with no legal moves.

Upon promotion, the knight loses it's jump moves and gains the moves of a gold general.  In some situations it may be preferable to leave a knight unpromoted.
